So...what's in a name?

Is this yet another hip name for a collaborative social platform? Hardly!

The name dashpoint is inspired by whom we believe was one of the founders of modern telecommunications:

Samuel Finley Breese Morse

Born in Charlestown Massachussets on April 27, 1791.

A Brief ... Back In Time

Morse was mostly known for his contributions to improve the telegraph.  More specifically, he created a code (we love code) - consisting of dots and dashes.  These could interpret the letters of the English alphabet and the ten digits and could be easily transmitted via the telegraph.  He also known for creating the printing telegraph.

"What hath God wrought?" was the first message sent at a public demonstration from the chamber of the Supreme Court to the Mount Clair train depot in Baltimore.

Another one of Morse's greatest contributions to humanity, from a designer's point of view, was to become a founder and the first president of the National Academy of Design, in New York. Something we are really fond of.

Having said this, we were truly inspired by all of Morse's failures, triumphs and contributions to our world, so we saw it fit to name our company after this great inventor.

dotdash, dashdot, pointdash, dashpoint ;)

So next time you see a squinting emoticon ;) or our awesome dp logo, you will also know, what we are squinting about!

One last note, for those that tend to pick up on those little details.  Notice that Samuel Morse dropped the use of his middle initials (FB)?  We took this as a sign, immediately ;)
