Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Farewell Letter

If, like me, you have stumbled upon Marquez famously acclaimed 'farewell letter', I present to you the reality of that letter in a nutshell.  This was NOT written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

I found too "fruity" for Marquez taste, although the messages are great!

If you're interested in the origins of the material, here are the original works used in the so called "Farewell Letter.”  One is by Norma Cornett Marek, and the other by Johnny Welch. The latter’s poem is read out by “Mofles”, Welch’s puppet. Knowing that the poem was read out by a puppet, allows us to understand it better. When I read the hoax letter for the first time, as I was half way through, it feels as if Marquez was from another planet, but now it makes better sense.

The original letter is in Spanish and attached at the end of this post, as well as the original poems, some links and comments. For those who can read both English and Spanish, you will greatly appreciate the beauty of Marek’s poem and rhyme in its original version.

The Lost Sheep

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine and looked for the One until he found it.  After he had toiled, he said to The Lamb, 'I love You, more than the ninety-nine.'
The Gospel of Thomas, 107

"SMART" Phone Usage

Don't let your smart phone take away all that you have worked for.  Follow these guidelines to stay on track!

  • Never text while driving or stopped at a light, not only is it dangerous, the fine is $280 - $1,000, plus 3 demerit points.
  • If the fines don't mean anything to you think about the damage you may cause to yourself and others, if heaven forbid, you get into an accident.
  • Don't use it when your kids are talking to you.  Their time should be sacred.
  • Refrain from using it while getting acupuncture, you may accidentally flip over to text, and push the needles inside you!
  • If you're with your couple, don't use it even if you are not talking at the moment.  It will cause them to distrust you and create discomfort.
  • Try not to use it while showering, you could mistake it for your bar of soap and damage your smartphone.  Water damage is not covered by warranty.
  • Don't use it in front of your parents, give back some of the time they gave to you and be thankful while you still have them with you.
  • It is not well mannered to text during any type of meeting, probably best not to take your smartphone with you.

Smartphones are great tools that bring you close to those who are far away.  But they can also distance yourself from those you have near.  Step away from the smartphone for one day, and you will see how beautiful life can be - although, at times, without your phone, you may feel somewhat naked.  This is normal.  Try it, you may enjoy it.

The Road To Happiness

The road to happiness is not straight.

There are curves called mistakes.

Traffic lights called friends.

Warning signs called family.

Hurdles that you must overcome to reach the finish line.

But you can make it if you have a spare tire called decision, and a powerful engine called love.

An insurance policy called faith.

Lots of fuel called patience.

And above all, a driver called Jesus!
